A strange purchase for Spurs as Kudus favours playing off the right, a position they already have plenty of players for. With Son looking like his legs had gone last season, it was expected they would target players to play on the left, especially with Richarlison having failed to impress on those ultra rare occasions he is fit. It certainly makes for interesting conjecture on the system Thomas Frank will play to fit the players he has in.

For me I find Kudus a strange signing anyway, as I watch him and he always looks like he is playing entirely for himself and has no care about the team or the result. Despite that, and his poor season last season, statistically he still looks decent with 13 goals and 12 assists in 65 Premier League appearances. He is a player that seems to do better on stats than he does on the eye test.

That is not to say that he does not look a good player, he has great strength, blistering acceleration with good pace and a huge amount of skill. Kudus with the ball at his feet is a defender's nightmare, as he is almost certain to try and dribble and run with it. However, his biggest issue is that he tries to do too much, running into blind alleys and turning over the ball.

Added to that, he can be lazy on the defensive side of things, he is prone to giving away lazy fouls to avoid having to track back, which adds to the feeling he is playing for himself rather than the team. Another issue with him in a English team is the AFCON. Every couple of years, he is likely to miss a month at one of the key points of the season. For most of Europe, that is not an issue as they have a winter break.

Perhaps the feelings around his attitude stem from, not just his poor season, but the team's as a whole last time out, as the West Ham camp was not a happy one. It is possible that Frank is looking at what Kudus showed the previous season and believes he can get him back to those level of performances. If so, he will be an excellent addition to the Spurs team. If he plays like he did last season, then the only team to have gained is the Hammers by getting a fee for him!
