A busy player with lots of ability but suffering badly with confidence issues right now. Almiron has pace, he works hard, tracking back with the kind of energy very few players display when defending and is particularly good at pressing the ball back.

The Paraguayan is a grafter, one who gives opposing defenders no breathing space at all. When he is off the ball he is chasing them putting them under pressure when they have the ball, when he has the ball he is generally running at them with pace, forcing them to make challenges.

When he is running with the ball, Almiron generally causes havoc, but it is very rare that it leads to any end product, which is the big weakness of his game. Since joining Newcastle, he has 0 goals and 1 assist. He can be very much of the head down, run and hope type of player, with little idea of what to do when he gets in dangerous areas.

Added to that, he is weak in the air and his striking technique can be wayward at times, particularly in front of goal, where he seems to have developed a mental block, in large part due to his lack of confidence. There is definitely a top class player in there, but it seems unlikely it will ever be unleashed due to his confidence issues.

Though Almiron must still be a manager's dream, with his workrate, willingness to follow instructions to the letter and that drive from the flank which frightens opponents into errors. He just needs a goal now. Something to give him that boost of confidence so we can see what he is truly capable of.
