In my opinion Herrera is highly undervalued by Man Utd as his play is key to allowing the higher quality players to play at their best. Teams always need a player like this, someone who will put in the hard yards no matter whether they are playing well or not, they still put themselves about. Ones that are willing to put the team ahead of themselves.

While a great team player, he is not a great individual player, in a similar way to many others down the years. Herrera has an excellent workrate, covering a lot of ground to get forward and support attacks and chasing back to protect the defence. Also, he is very willing to 'take one for the team' as they say, making what would usually be known as a tactical foul.

He has good technique, with a decent first touch and good movement, usually making himself available to receive a pass. Herrera does not have great vision nor a great range of passing, both are fairly limited and he is best suited to a simple short-passing game.

Herrera is a foil to better players, rather than one of the better players, but he is good enough to play at Premier League level in his own right, but he is only ever going to be as good as the team around him. There is not one part of his game that is outstanding, but also no part of his game that is a real weakness.

He can head, but he is not special in the air, he can run, but he is not pacey, he can tackle, he can pass, has some vision but all of it is just decent level, nothing is special. Despite lacking great ability Herrera is the kind of player you want on your team, rather than having to play against him. United will certainly miss him next season.
